At 8 months our little girl has lots of personality. She is generally a happy baby and pretty much everything makes her smile: peek-a-boo, funny noises, seeing a familiar face, petting and watching the cats, playing with other babies, etc. Anything out of the ordinary makes her giggle too. For example, now if she sees anything on my head, like a stuffed animal or toy, she cracks up.
She has been eating solids for a few months now. She isn't as picky as I thought she would be. She hasn't refused any foods and seems to eat pretty much anything you offer her. In fact, Jimmy is a much more finicky eater than Amelia. Her favorite foods so far are sweet potatoes and any kind of fruit.
She can also pick up puffs and feed herself and has almost mastered the sippy cup. Her only downfall is that she gets lazy. (Of course, Jimmy gets full credit for passing down this trait.) If she doesn't feel like picking up her sippy cup or feeding herself puffs, so won't do it. She'll just scream until you do it for her.
I'm still nursing her and despite the introduction of her two new teeth, it has been going well. My new goal is to continue until she's a year old.
My absolute favorite time of the day is the time during her last feeding, right before she goes to bed. She's fresh from her evening bath and smells sooooo good. The lights are turned down and her lullaby music is playing in the background. It's just her and I rocking in the nursery. She's usually exhausted and she snuggles up so close to me while she nurses. I stroke her hair, give her kisses, and just stare at her. I love it.
Although she discovered her talking voice a few months ago, she has discovered another aspect of her vocal abilities: SCREAMING. Although it was cute at first, her screams, screeches, and squeals are starting to get annoying, ha ha ha. Now, when she's happy (which is most of the time), she screams! She does make some normal sounds like "ba," "mmmmm," and "ddduh," but her vocal talent (and preference) is definitely in the screaming department. I hope this is just a phase.
Amelia loves our playgroups. She has lots of friends and I'm realizing that she has a very social personality! Even at just 8 months, she's always trying to talk and play with the other babies. Yesterday, she and Ellana, who is also eight months, were "talking" to each other in their screaming voices. They went on and on... it was loud and hilarious!
She loves baths. She has just now taken an interest in the water and bubbles. She doesn't mind water in her face and has an obsession with the water hose and nozzle.
After bath time is a different story. She gets very upset when we get her dressed for bed. I think part of the reason she gets cranky afterwards is that she is tired. She calms back down again immediately during her last nursing session. She is usually in bed by 7-7:30pm and sleeps 11-12 hours.
Jimmy was freaking out when he saw this bathing suit at the store. Amelia just had to have it!
