We had a great visit with Jimmy's parents and his sister's family! Although we had a rough start (my ER visit and the van getting towed), it was so nice to get everyone together and have some quality time as a family. Again, I would like to thank everyone for making the cross-country trip to join us for Amelia's first vacation. It means so much to us and we really appreciate it!
From DC, it was a five hour drive to the Outer Banks, and Amelia did really well in the car. She slept most of the way and we only stopped once for lunch. It wasn't until about 30 minutes before we reached our destination that she started to have a meltdown. I guess I would be upset too if I had to be in a car seat that long.
We were fortunate enough to have hot and sunny weather the whole week! However, it was a little TOO hot. The area was actually going through a heat wave and at times it was very miserable.
Unfortunately, I was sick during the entire trip. I was really sore from my ovarian cyst and also ended up with a sore throat and a cold. I couldn't take any medication because I'm still breastfeeding, so that was lame. Basically, I felt under the weather for the whole week. Jimmy was nice enough to let me sleep in every morning and took the lead on caring for Amelia, so that helped a lot. I took lots of naps and rested when I could.
I think Amelia really enjoyed herself! She did well and pretty much stuck with her normal nap, eating and bedtime schedule... thank goodness! Although, she did tend to wake up a little earlier in the mornings and had a few "diva" moments, ha ha ha. It only took her about a day to warm up to all the new people. I know she enjoyed all the extra attention and exciting new surroundings and adventures we went on.
We are so looking forward to future family vacations ;0) I feel like they mean so much more now that we have Amelia in our life. She really makes life worth living!
